Practical Informations

The conference took place in the Science 3 building of the Campus 2 of the University (see map below). On this page you will find informations about: the travel to Caen, the transportations in Caen, the hotels and the restaurant, and our campus.

The most convenient way to come to Caen is to travel first to Paris, and then to take the train at the Saint-Lazare Station in Paris. If you have a flight to Charles-de-Gaulle airport, best is to take the RER B to Gare du Nord, and there the RER E to Saint-Lazare (cf this map of the subway in Paris). Another solution is to take the Roissy Bus from the airport to the Opéra in Paris, and then to walk for 800m. The train journey from Saint-Lazare to Caen takes approx. 2 hours (±15 min depending on the train). Once at the train station in Caen, take the Tram directly in front of the main exit in direction of "Caen Campus 2" or "Hérouville Saint-Clair".

Once in Caen you can use the tram between the train station, the hotels and the campuses. Tickets can be bought from machines at each tram stop (but not in the tram itself). There are two tram lines (A and B) which both go through the train station and the center of the town (Saint-Pierre stop) where the hotels are located. Cf also this map of the lines. For the Campus 2 take the tram line A in direction of "Caen Campus 2". The Science 3 building lies directly on the left of the terminal stop. The journey from the train station to the Campus 2 takes approx. 25 minutes.

Hotels and Restaurant

Speakers of the conference have been accomodated at the Hôtel du Château. Other standard hotels in the center of Caen for visitors of the department are the Hôtel des Quatrans, the Hôtel Astrid, the Hôtel de l'Univers or the Hôtel Bernières. These hotels are located near the tram stops Saint-Pierre and Bernières. For the lunch breaks we used the self-service restaurant on Campus 2. The dinner on Wednesday 21 took place at the Café Mancel, which is located inside the remains of the Castle in the city center.

The red "T" on the plan opposite denotes the terminal stop of the Tram, "Caen Campus 2". The meeting took place in the "S3" building (Sciences 3). Participants have been welcomed in room S3 247 on the third floor of the Math department, indicated by the red "M". The location of the Lecture Hall S3 043, where the talks took place, is indicated by the red "L".

Internet Access

Wireless internet access is available in some parts of the buildings of the University. If you have an eduroam account, you can connect to the "eduroam" network. Otherwise, you can connect to the "unicaen" wireless network. Connection to this network is not protected, however you have to specify a login and password in your web browser to be able to access the internet. This connection data has been prepared for each participant.
Here are the technical details. Your browser must connect to the internet through a proxy: you must tell him to automatically detect the proxy settings of the network, or to use the configuration file http://wpad.unicaen.fr/proxy.pac. You will then be asked for your login and password at your first webpage request. You should better tell your browser to remember this data, since the identification will expire after some time.
